Amateur Music-making in Germany – Results and methods

Cover

For 14.3 million people, making music is a regular leisure activity. They sing in gospel choirs, sit at the piano at home, accompany the children in the St. Martin's procession with their music band or meet to practise with the band. The variety of opportunities and the demographic data of the large group of recreational musicians were collected in the study ‘Amateur Musicians in Germany’ and summarised in central categories.

The data is based on a population-representative survey conducted by the Allensbach Institute for Public Opinion Research on behalf of the miz. The German Music Information Centre published the results in March 2021. The report is only available online.
